The Mobile Metal Backed Patella

The RBK rotating metal backed patella replacement consists of a chrome cobalt metal base plate which is porous coated and Hydroxyapatite coated.  The underside of the base plate has three fixation pegs to provide resistance to torsional forces across the patella.

The UHMWPE component attached to the base plate via a central snap on cam mechanism.

The  polyethylene component has a restricted ark of rotation by virtue of a small stop mechanism. The polyethylene is highly congruent with the matching femoral component.  This allows a dissipation of contact stresses as the patella tracks in  its serpentine fashion through the normal range of motion.

The metal components are gamma irradiated and the  polyethylene components are ethylene oxide sterilized and the packaged together in the same box.

The surgeon will find the ability to implant the base plate first and then simply snap on the polyethylene component a great advantage over previous designs.
