Profile: Dr Peter Hannaford (FRACS, FAOrthA)
Dr Hannaford’s services as an Arthroplasty Consultant were engaged by Global Orthopaedic Technology in July 2004. His extensive experience in Arthroplasty surgery and interest in implant design, research and development has dovetailed perfectly into GOT’s ongoing plans for Australian based orthopaedic development and customer service. Dr Hannaford has participated in implant development and reciprocal surgical training with colleagues in Switzerland, Italy and the USA. His unique role has allowed him to continue participating in implant development without the constraints of running a busy surgical practice. Although he no longer sees patients, Dr Hannaford maintains his professional credentials and actively participates in Australian and international clinical meetings. The role of arthroplasty consultant as practiced by Dr Hannaford is unique in this country. He is available for opinions on problems ranging from primary hip and knee surgery to unusual or complex arthroplasty and revision surgery. His services extend from preoperative opinion and planning to intraoperative scrubbed surgical assistance. This is accommodated by his ongoing medical board registration in the following jurisdictions: NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia. He is currently accredited at over twenty private hospitals as a surgical assistant, and can usually gain approval for temporary privileges at public hospitals with a few days’ notice. Dr Hannaford’s role extends to data collection, research and technical review of orthopaedic literature. He is involved with quality assurance programs and education. He has described his role as a professional link between the surgical craft of arthroplasty and the business and industry of implant design, manufacture and supply.
