News

It could be argued that proximal modularity in cemented hips is at least as relevant if not more so than with cementless devices.

The accompanying images show the R120 which is manufactured by Encore orthopaedics in the USA and proudly distributed by Global Hip Technology (A
Global company) in Australia.

The 1st image shows the cemented stem in place with a protective insert in the female taper awaiting the insertion of the neck.

As the protective insert is removed, the 'dialability' of the neck can be seen. Version adjustment and spatial orientation take the guess work out of cemented hip arthroplasty. If the stem is mal-positioned, the neck in it's variable positions can easily compensate for it and indeed any mal-position of the acetabular component.

A removable neck is advantageous also, giving unsurpassed access to the socket in the event of revision. Being able to replace the neck and hence provide a new trunion,  allows the use of a new ceramic head which is in  keeping with Ceramtec's (tm) guidelines which state that no ceramic head should be placed over a used trunion.
