Manufacturing
High tech medical manufacturer makes a home in the Illawarra and takes on the multi-nationals with Australian joint replacement products..."
GMT (Global Manufacturing Technology ) was formed from the union of Lucchini Engineering and Global Orthopaedic Technology. Lucchini Engineering has developed specialised technologies leading to manufacturing orders from BHP, Ducati Motor-cycles and Ferrari.
Global Orthopaedic Technology, a Sydney based company succeeded in bringing to market a number of high quality Orthopaedic implants now widely used in Australia. Due to unprecedented acceptance of its innovative product, Global Orthopaedic needed to secure its own locally based manufacturing facility.
The formation of this new Illawarra based entity brings two innovative companies together. Implants made in Wollongong are destined for the Australian and International markets. In fact, joint replacement products made at this facility are currently being exported to the USA, long considered the bastion of the joint replacement industry.
For the first time in this country, design, quality assurance, manufacture along with sales and marketing now resides under one collective umbrella.
GMT has a fully accredited design and manufacturing facility, which has met the rigorous standards required by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration. This allows for the carefully controlled design, manufacturer, packaging and processing of medical grade implants.
This GMT facility is a valuable addition to the Medical Infrastructure of Australia.
GMT in tandem with Global Orthopaedic Technology has identified a myriad of opportunities, both here and overseas where our locally designed and manufactured product has wide appeal.
One such opportunity is the provision of a patello-femoral resurfacing implant that will help treat younger, active patients with arthritis of the kneecap. This will be a rapidly growing market segment given the emergence of this unique implant.
