Doctor Mark Haber receives prestigious award at ISAKOS in Japan

Illawarra Orthopaedic surgeon Dr Mark Haber has been awarded the prestigious Richard B Caspari Award after devising a biochemical testing technique to more securely attach tendon to bone in the shoulder after rotator cuff tears.

Global would like to congratulate Dr Haber on recieving this award, and were happy to part fund the project.

A large proportion of the population over 70 have experienced rotator cuff tears, and yet of the 12,000 surgeries performed in Australia every year, almost half fail structurally, often in the first 18 months.

"What we really wanted to do was restore the torn tendon to it's original state, reproduce it's original anatomy," said Dr Haber.

Dr Haber's research was carried out at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.
