Board of Directors

The Directors bring to the Board relevant experience and skills, including industry and business knowledge, financial management and corporate governance experience.

Stuart Baxter – Chairman

Stuart is presently the Co-Fund Manager of Riverside Asia Fund. Stuart has led investment teams across three of Riverside’s funds. He originally launched Riverside Europe Fund and supervised all negotiations, legal due diligence and post-acquisition board work.

In 2000, Stuart transitioned to head Riverside’s San Francisco office as a Managing Partner of RCAF. In 2007 he launched Riverside’s Asia Fund.

Prior to joining Riverside in 1997, he was Director of Crimson Capital’s Czech Restructuring and Privatization Group for two years. Prior to that, Stuart was President of AI International Corporation, the U.S.-based holding company for a high-net-worth Kuwaiti family. He spent 12 years at AI International Corporation, managing various operating businesses, venture capital and real estate portfolios and executing over 30 acquisitions. Stuart began his career in investment banking in 1980 as an analyst at Credit Suisse First Boston.

Andrew Fox-Smith – Executive Director

Andrew Fox-Smith was appointed Chief Executive Officer on 20th June 2014 following the acquisition of Global Orthopaedic Technology by The Riverside Company – a leading mid cap private equity company.

As CEO, Andrew is responsible for the company’s overall management and global strategy. He has advised Riverside on a number of deals over the last 2 years and has over 20 years experience in the medical technology industry – including 18 years at Stryker Corporation where his most recent position was as Group President, International.

Andrew holds a Bachelor of Business from Charles Sturt University and has completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He is also Chairman of Optimized Ortho Pty Ltd – an innovative Australian based medical technology company specialising in dynamic, functional and patient specific simulations.

Michael Ribot – Non Executive Director

Michael Ribot is a co-founder of Global Orthopaedic Technology. Michael has a telecommunications engineering background; however, the Orthopaedic Market has been his focus for the past 30 years. Michael has worked closely with Australian surgeons in developing Global’s implant and instrument portfolios.

Jack O’Mahony – Non Executive Director

Jack O’Mahony has spent over 40 years in the Medical Device Industry. Starting with Howmedica Division of Pfizer as a Sales Representative in Boston, USA and ending up as Worldwide President of the company for 4 years prior to its sale to Stryker Corp.

He then transitioned to the position of International President of Stryker Corp based in Europe. Jack then accepted a position as President of Cochlear a leading Australian company and manufacturer of the Bionic Ear Implant.

Prior to his eventual retirement he accepted a position as President of Synthes Asia Pacific (a leading manufacturer of Orthopaedic Trauma products).

Jack holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from University College Cork, Ireland. He is also a director of Sisk Healthcare Company in Dublin along with being a business advisor to Healthpoint Capital in New York. He is also active in advising various small start -ups in the Medical Device field.

Dr William Walter – Special Advisor

Dr Walter is the founding partner and most senior orthopaedic surgeon at Sydney Hip & Knee Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, former Chairman of the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Mater Private Hospital, and former Chairman of the Medical Executive at the Mater Private Hospital.

Dr Walter is a long standing Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS), a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association, a founding member and past president of the Arthroplasty Society of Australia and a member of the Board for the Australian Institute of Musculo-Skeletal Research. Dr Walter’s interest in hip and knee replacement surgery began in the 1970s when it was first done in Australia; he has since done many thousands of joint replacements and is among the most respected surgeons in Australia.

Dr Walter operates at the Mater Hospital in Crows Nest. He has been involved in the training of many of the orthopaedic surgeons in Sydney and he is regarded as ‘the orthopaedic surgeon’s orthopaedic surgeon’.
