A Knee revision for a nickel sensitive patient.

This patient originally underwent total knee replacement and developed pain and inflammation of unknown origin. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the patient was in fact nickel sensitive. The implant was removed and an oxinium coated implant was substituted. Unfortunately, this did not alleviate the symptoms and the patient presented for a third revision.

A custom made RBK prosthesis was made with a titanium nitride coating on ALL surfaces. The patient is reportedly doing well and has returned to work. There is evidence of mild to moderate arthro-fibrosis which may be the result of several procedures and the exaggerated inflammatory response.
