Global began by establishing itself as an importer and distributor of orthopaedic implants. The revenue from this activity was used to fund the commercialization of locally designed and ultimately manufactured product.
At the time of the company’s move into orthopaedics, less than 2% of Australia’s joint replacement requirements were provided by local companies.
That number has now increased to 5% or more and is continuing to grow. Interestingly, global is now exporting implants to the United States, New Zealand and will soon be entering the European and Asian markets.
Global has brought a number of very high quality implants to market. Our flagship products; namely, the RBK Knee system and the GRU (uni-compartmental knee) along with the newly released Patello-femoral replacement are making significant inroads into local and overseas markets.
Our structure allows us to source premium and unique products from the world stage. We continue to do this in order to keep in touch with emerging technologies. We currently import selected products in those areas where we choose not to manufacture.
Our design company is busy creating products for the future. As the population ages, and the recipients of early generation joint replacement technology return for revision surgery, our implants need to be able to address the challenges that are presented.
Global believes the performance of all implants needs to be measured and the information used to create longer lasting devices. Many of the Orthopaedic surgeons working with us diligently document and study their patients over long periods of time. This is vital to the ongoing development process.
Global believes in the development of a truly Australian orthopaedic industry espousing an uncompromising dedication to achieve the highest standards. We also believe it is vital to create and retain the skill base in this country.
